Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst Ranks Gibbons Among Country's Most Active PE Practices for Second Year in a Row

In its 2008 annual rankings of the country’s most active law firms in the private equity arena, Private Equity Analyst, a DOW JONES publication providing premier coverage of the industry, named Gibbons P.C. among the top-ranked firms for both number of funds and number of deals. This marked the second year in a row that the firm’s Private Equity practice, led by Corporate Department Directors Frank T. Cannone and Cheryl A. Gorman, has appeared on this prestigious list, as well as the second year in a row that Gibbons is the only ranked firm headquartered in New Jersey.

Gibbons placed 44th in the rankings by number of funds, having worked on 23 funds that had final close in 2008. Based on the 14 complex private equity deals Gibbons negotiated and closed in 2008, the firm placed 65th in the rankings by number of deals completed. “We are excited to have achieved such a successful year in private equity during 2008 even though the financial markets experienced their worst crisis in generations,” says Frank T. The Gibbons Private Equity practice represents sponsors and investors in raising funds and the formation of funds, including private equity funds, private debt funds, distressed debt funds, venture capital funds, fund-of-funds, development companies under the Investment Company Act, and a variety of real estate investment structures, such as real estate partnerships, funds, and REITs. We also represent individuals, groups, organizations, and institutions with respect to their making and maintaining fund investments; handling acquisitions and divestitures; securities and governance matters; and general operational legal work with respect to their portfolio investments.
